"RE-ACT/PLAY/FORM" is an experimental project born from an artist residency in Yemen, offering a deep reflection on the professional experiences encountered during the stay. While living and engaging with local communities on Socotra Island, we became acutely aware of several pressing issues, particularly the unresolved challenges surrounding waste management and waste transportation. This stark reality prompted us to explore the potential of recycled plastics as a means of addressing these environmental concerns. In response to this situation, we began experimenting with the possibilities of using recycled materials, specifically PET and PLA plastics, alongside bioplastics—materials that present a more sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. The project seeks to merge forward-thinking technological solutions with motifs and design elements traditionally associated with Arab culture, creating a dynamic fusion of innovation and heritage. Drawing inspiration from iconic symbols found in Arab culture, we crafted experimental objects made entirely from recycled and bioplastic materials. These pieces not only serve as functional objects but also as conceptual reflections on sustainability, resourcefulness, and the intersection of cultural identity with modern technological advancements.
